The English dub of the anime mini-series Pokémon Origins was released on the iTunes platform on May 28, 2014. Each episode is purchasable individually (at a price of $2.99) and/or bundled in a four-episode collection (priced at $11.96), with options including standard-definition and high-definition presentations.
The mini-series, based off of the events of Pokémon Red and Blue and unrelated to the main Pokémon anime, chronicles Red's journey as a Pokémon Trainer throughout the Kanto region. During his adventure, Red sets off to complete his Pokédex by encountering many species of Pokémon, in addition to battling members of the Pokémon League and squaring off with Team Rocket. Pokémon Origins was first broadcast in Japan on October 2, 2013, later receiving English distribution to platforms such as Pokémon TV and Hulu beginning in November 2013.
The iTunes release marks the first time that Pokémon Origins is available for home-media purchase outside of Japanese and Australian territories, as a DVD release in North American territories is yet to be announced.
