The Video Game rules and clauses remain the same as the 2011 Video Game Championship events; however, the move Dark Void is now banned, making it the first move to be banned for reasons other than a glitch. Aside from the following, all Pokémon numbered 001-646 are eligible for use:

- Ho-Oh
- Celebi
- Groudon
- Kyogre
- Rayquaza
- Jirachi
- Deoxys

- Manaphy
- Darkrai
- Shaymin

While Jirachi was not originally on this list, Video Game Event Planner Mike Liesik has confirmed the lack-of-listing was in error, and it has since been corrected.
